Ume is one of the detectives working for the YPDA. She does not enjoy working in the field, or outdoors. She's more than a little obsessed with her computer, and lights up when discussing it. She owns a mug that reads "I love secrets". Out of all of the detectives, she mentions money and being paid the most.
Personality[]
Ume is generally pretty snarky and sarcastic, and enjoys making fun of others.
They were shown in by an old-looking woman with the immature spirit of a teenager — Mrs. Ume Hakase, I was informed. She cracked several mean jokes at our expense, then apologized as though that excused her.
You can never tell if she really likes you or not. It's also very hard to tell when she is joking, due to her heavy use of ironic humor.
Skills[]
Ume catalogs every case using her Case File System.
In addition to record-keeping, Ume claims to be "good with motives", which the other detectives endorse. She claims her method for understanding motives is like "writing fanfiction".
Have you ever heard of fanfiction? Well, I write it. In my head. About people.
— Ume Hakase
However, Ume's skills with motives are dubious, and Noa questions them multiple times. Another sign Ume doesn't really know much about motives is how socially tone-deaf she seems.
Appearances[]
Broken Minds[]
In Broken Minds, Ume features heavily in the story. She's the first detective that Noa meets.
Broken Egg[]
Ume has a more subdued role in Broken Egg. She stays at the YPDA offices for the entire mystery.
