The visual style of the Kowareta Kokoro series changes drastically entry to entry.
BROKEN MINDS[]
Broken Minds's visual style is mainly inspired by Danganronpa[1] and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro[2], though it has its own flavor to it that sets it apart.
The environments in the game are purposefully toned down, and it mostly takes place at night. This is to create a sense of dread, and to contrast with the stylized characters. The style of the characters has been compared to the Gorillaz[3][4], an animated band that rose to prominence in the 90s.
There is an emphasis on scribbles as a motif; the same scribbled words appear many times during the game during transitions between locations, or as part of the backgrounds. The bright, energetic colors red, magenta, cyan, orange, and pink contrast with subdued grays and blacks. Pop culture is also a part of the style, with parodies of Sailor Moon[5] and Shonen Jump[6] littering Noa's apartment.
BROKEN EGG[]
Broken Egg's style is inspired by fairy tale books and Russian eggs. Its main colors used are brown, white, and gray, with border-less illustrations accompanying it.
